What Network Marketing and Super Bowl XLIII Have In Common

You may be scratching your head about the title of this article and asking "What DO Network Marketing and Super Bowl XLIII have in common?" There was one play in particular that really brought it home to me. Let me explain.

It was the last play before Half Time, the Cardinals had the ball and were ready to run the ball right into the end zone, the last play of the first half. What happened next was a history making play. If you saw it you know what I'm talking about. The Steelers gained possesion of the ball, made a 180 degree turn and ran a history making 100 yard touchdown. It was amazing to see.

Still scratching your head?

Here's my point. All those guys train hard to do what they do. They all played their hearts out. What made the difference in that play? The Steelers player, Harrison trusted his coach and did what he was told to do even though he sometimes resisted what the coach told him to do.

You see, one of the commentators during halftime mentioned that Harrison didn't like the fact that the coach wanted him to drop back during a play like that. A lot of the time he resisted (and complained about it), but he always did what he was asked to do. Look at what happened. Harrison took the coach's direction and the Steelers are Super Bowl Champions (again) because of it.

How often in Network Marketing do we have a coach or mentor who has been in the business way longer than we have. They have the experience. They have a successful business and yet we don't want to follow their advice.

Even though using the internet for our Network Marketing or Home Based Business is relatively new, there are people who have been wildly successful at it, but some of us still tend to dig in our heels and want to do it our way.

In this new model of Internet Network Marketing it's important to be coachable and teachable. We have to lay a solid foundation and practice the basics. Every day, it's in our best interest to practice the fundamentals until they become a part of who we are. It's even more important to take action on what you've been practicing.

We need to listen to the folks that paved the way for this new model of Internet Network Marketing. Even more important than listening, is taking action and doing what experts like Ann Sieg, Mike Dillard and Mike Klingler are teaching us how us to do.

It's a new day guys. Those that will succeed are those that listen and then do. Think of the Steelers and that amazing touchdown. Success is yours. Take the ball and start runnin'.

Renegade University Puts It All Together

One of the first things you'll realize when you take the marketing for your business online is that there is sooo much to learn.

There's the free stuff you can use like writing articles, Hubpages and Squidoo pages. There's blogging, website building and building a presence on the social networking sites. Are you on Facebook or MySpace? Do you Twitter? Do you even know what Twitter is? If it all sounds overwhelming, take heart, there is one place that puts it all together.

Renegade University, based on Ann Sieg's The Renegade Network Marketer, is an educational one-stop-shop for network marketers, home business owners and anyone who wants to build a presence on the internet. Mike Klingler, the founder of Renegade University, does an amazing job taking even the most computer-challenged person step-by-step through what it takes to market your business on the internet.

The best part of all is that Renegade University is free.

When I found Renegade University it was quite by accident and boy, am I thankful for that. The internet is a huge resource and it's so easy to get overwhelmed and confused trying the "next new thing". After awhile you take your focus off what actually works and end up doing nothing. I know, I did it.

Mike Klingler and Renegade University cover the entire marketing process so you'll see results fast. Here's some of what you'll learn:

  • How to set up free classified ads to get traffic to your webpage
  • How to set up affiliate accounts so you can actually make money while your business is building
  • How to market yourself on the internet so that people actually come to you, not you chasing after them. What a concept!
  • How blogs (web logs) attract people to your business...and much more.

When I listened to the tutorials for the first time, all I could do was nod my head and say, "Yes, this is the piece that's been missing!" Finally, all the marketing information I'd been searching for and been putting together bit by bit was all in one place.

Do yourself a favor and hop on over to Renegade University and check it out. The guess work has been taken out. The frustration you may have been experiencing will melt away and you'll have a business where you're in complete control.

Success Comes When You Educate Yourself

Anyone who has entered any kind of profession knows that to be effective in that profession you have to get educated. Why then is it, that when someone decides to start a home based business, many people think that it will run itself if we plug into the company website and hand out a few DVD's?

Think about that a minute. Doctors and lawyers spend eight to ten years in school and spend tens of thousands of dollars for their education. They're in debt their first few years in their new profession paying off that education. We are so blessed to be in the industry we're in because the income potential compared to the start-up cost is huge.

The blessing can also be a frustration because unfortunately the old school methods teach that our business is just about "sharing" and like "recommending a restaurant or movie". The faulty logic in that way of thinking is that when you "share" no money changes hands and unless you're a movie or restaurant critic, you don't get paid for recommending anything. Unless I'm wrong, we all get into business to make money.

That thinking leaves the average home based business owner wondering where to turn when they've run out of people to talk to.

The solution to the old school way of doing a networking business is to learn, learn and learn some more how to market both yourself and your business.

It's not enough anymore to use the 3 foot rule and buy leads. It costs way too much, waists too much time and isn't nearly as effective as learning how to market your business and attract people who want what you have to offer. People coming to you? What an exciting concept!

Where do learn about marketing? And especially internet marketing?

The internet is a great place to start and you'll find tons of information from every self proclaimed internet marketer out there. That's where you have to be careful because you'll find every kind of marketing program known to man.

Many of the "gurus" you'll encounter are making their money selling programs on how to market on the internet. Do you see a problem here? Most have never built a home based business and may not teach what you really need.

The top programs I've found are Ann Seig's The Renegade Network Marketer and Mike Dillard's Magnetic Sponsoring. Both programs were written for network marketers because both Ann Sieg and Mike Dillard are network marketers. I won't go into the specifics of each program here (that's for another article), but I will say that both will teach you not only to market your business and attract prospects to you, they also show you how to make money in the process so you don't go broke in the early stages of your business.

Make money while you're making money? Now there's a win-win!

You've probably heard the saying that if you're not moving forward, you're moving backward? It couldn't be more true than when it comes to running your own business. Investing in yourself by learning effective marketing techniques through books, webinars and all the other great stuff available will put you light years ahead of the old business methods. Investing too in yourself, in your own personal growth and development will pay you back hundreds of times over in the years to come.

Article Writing : A No Cost Way To Attract People To Your Business

When I was first introduced to article writing as a way to build my business, my first reaction was, "Who me, a writer? No way. I can't do that".

Maybe you're saying the same thing to yourself. Well, it's time to quiet that little voice of doubt , whip out your computer keyboard and get to it. Article writing for your business is not only effective, but fun.

One huge benefit of article writing to promote you and your business is that it sets you apart as an expert in your field. Even if you don't feel like and expert, you are. Whatever the subject, you know more about it than the majority of the population.

Not a scholar when it comes to writing? Good!! You don't need to be. You want to write to your audience like you would talk to a friend over coffee. There are several great places to put your articles once they're written to get maximum exposure. Three of them are:

Squidoo- Here you create whats called a lens (that's a Squidoo term for a webpage for your article). You can write a lens on any subject. It doesn't even have to relate to your business. For example, do you like to cook? Write a lens about a yummy recipe you just found.  Like to work on cars? Write a lens about car tune-up tips. You choose what you write about.

Hubpages- This is similar to Squidoo only a page is called a Hub (Hub-pages, get it?) Again, pick any topic you're familiar with and share what you know.

Ezine Articles- Again you're writing on topics you love and know. The difference is that your article can get picked up and used by ezine (electronic magazine) publishers and make it's way virally across the internet.  Your same article can be read for years and you only had to do the work once. Very cool!

The very important reason to write articles and keep putting more content on the internet is that in each of the different places, be it Squidoo, Hubpages, Ezine Articles or any of the other article sharing sites, you as the author get to include a resource box. That's important because that box is the way the world finds out about you and how to get in contact with you. Resource boxes will give you a place to link to your website or blog.

Even if you flunked high school English class, you can market yourself and your business through article writing. So, start flexing those writing muscles and you'll see how easy and effective it is to attract people to you through article marketing.

Starting Your Home Business Right Even Without A Lot Of Cash

Lots of folks would love to start their own business, but few actually do. Why? They think they need lots of money to get started. And even if just the start-up costs aren't much, the old school ways teach that to be successful you need to buy tons of DVD's and hand them out, spend hundreds of dollars a month buying leads and get yourself to every company event humanly possible. Have I got good news for you!!

Whether you've just received your new distributor kit or have been at it awhile with minimal results, you can build a phenominal business without spending phenominal cash.

Let me start out by letting you know that I've tried it the old way, too. Several times. Can you relate? I've bought leads, I've advertised, I've sat at booths at Bridal Fairs, Health Fairs and Job Fairs. The result. Not much.

While the old ways work for a few, they're not easy to duplicate and today with people's lives busier than ever, prospecting in the mall, as an example, just doesn't cut it (and may get you kicked out of the mall if you're not careful) Luckily, the internet has changed how home based business owners and network marketers get the word out and the really cool thing is that the only major currency is your time.

Do You Need Your Own Website?

A question I get asked alot is "Do I need a website?" It's great to have one, but it's not absolutely necessary.  You do want to have a web presence, though, and there are Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace that can connect you with your target audience without having to build your own site. The next best thing is having your own blog where you can share what you know and who you are with your target audience.

Targetting Your Audience

Target audience? Yep, it's critical when you go into business for yourself that you target what you have to offer to a specific group (or groups) of people. For example, if you market health and wellness products, you'd want to find all the places on the internet where people interested in health and wellness would hang out.

Check out the health and fitness forums (just do a Google search for the topic you're looking for), go to the places on the web where people exchange information on disease prevention and start answering questions. Provide value for people without trying to sell anything. Become the expert they feel comfortable asking. Once they know you and what you do, the business will follow.

Writing For Your Target Audience

Writing articles in the area of your business is a wonderful way to establish yourself online. Create pages at Squidoo and Hubpages. Write articles and submit them to ezine articles. All of these different resources have a place where you can tell your audience about you. They also let you put in contact information so people can get in touch with you. This is a happy thing. Curiosity leads to customers.

Starting your own home based business and marketing using the internet are the perfect marriage of high-tech and high-touch.  With effort, patience and a little time you will have a thriving business without breaking the bank.

How The Internet Has Leveled The Playing Field For Those Working From Home

It used to be, and not that long ago, that to be successful in a home based business you got the word out by making a list, calling your list, getting rejected by most of those people on your list, and then once you'd burned through that list, the next step would be buying leads that more times than not would cost much and produce little. Today there's a much better way.

Now with Web 2.0 where people all over the world can interact with each other in the blink of an eye, and the social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, even the beginning home business owner can create the same amount of exposure for their business as the big guys.

There are so many different ways to promote your business online and the really cool thing is that you can choose the methods that you like the best. Let's talk about just a few of them.

Social Networking Sites- Unless someone has just flown in from a remote deserted island, nearly everyone has heard of sites like Facebook and MySpace. They aren't just for teenagers sharing music anymore. The big thing to remember though is that there is an etiquette when talking to folks on these social sites.

Imagine being at a huge party, are you going to go up to everyone you meet for the first time and say "Hi, my name is Al. I represent the most awesome, super-duper advanced mega product and you just have to buy it.  As a matter of fact, it's so good that if you don't buy it, your life will go down the toilet."

Obviously I'm exagerating, but I've been on Facebook and MySpace for nearly a year and let me tell ya, those people are out there. Don't be one of them. I had one guy make a comment on my Facebook status (status is kind of an update on what you're doing at the moment like, Beth is... getting ready to make another blog post) because I'd mentioned I was needing some coffee and he was pitching me on his no caffeine energy drink.  Not exactly a great first impression, besides, I love my caffeine.

Websites and blogs- It used to be that to put a website online, you had to be a techy in the computer department. Thank heaven that's not the case anymore. Now it's possible to build an entire online business presence without knowing any computer mumbo-jumbo geeky stuff. This blog is a great example of how easy it is to reach people online. You can literally be reaching new customers and business builders within minutes.

Online Advertising- I know what you're thinking. Advertising, lots of money, no budget, can't do it. Yes, you can. Did you know you can advertise for free on websites like Traffic Swarm (a traffic exchange site), CraigsListWalmart (yes, Walmart) and many others? There are also low budget places like ezines (electronic magazines), paid website ads and when you've gotten a little experience, pay-per-click ads on Google and MSN. (I'll be doing training on that in the near future)

Bottom line is, you can do it. The very cool thing is that marketing online virtually eliminates rejection because you're talking to the people who want to talk to you, and who want what you have to offer.

What a great way to build your business.

Why Now Is The Best Time To Start A Home Based Business

Are you getting a little nervous? Maybe a lot nervous. Seems that every time you turn on the radio, TV or check the news on the computer there's a new addition to the economic crisis.

Talk of lay-offs, downsizing and rising unemployment has created the perfect storm for home based business owners. Now, more than ever, is the time for you to create your own "Economic Stimulous Package" to protect you and your family from this crazy economy.

Now is the best time to take control of your financial future by either starting your own home based business or really working your business if you're already involved in one. Because frankly, if you're waiting for for some kind of miraculous bailout, it will be a long time coming.

Here are some things that make now the perfect time to venture into a home based business of your own:

Baby boomers are coming of age, retirement age that is. And those who aren't quite there yet are sure thinking about it. If you have a 401K or IRA, have you looked atit lately? If yours is like mine,it ain't pretty.Wall Street's little dance the last few months has lots of folks wondering if they can retire when they'd planed, if at all. A very large segment of the population have not prepared for their "golden years" believing Social Security will keep them all warm and toasty after they retire. Those folks will need the funds to keep them comfortable without having to flip burgers at the local fast food joint. You can show them a better way.

Generation X and Y (will there be a Z?) is looking for a better way to earn a living. These are the twenty and thirty somethings that have become dissatisfiedwith working a regular J-O-B because they know there's more to life than showing up to work on time and putting in their eight hours at something that's not fulfilling for them. These folks watched their parents work long and hard at stressful jobs. They realize there's more to life than just work and they want to make a contribution that's meaningful (and make a good living at the same time). They're tech savvy, smart and can make things happen.

People are worried about the economy and you can offer them hope. By starting your own home based business in direct sales or network marketing you can offer a solution to those wondering if they're even going to have a job in the near future. Look at all the real estate agents, mortgage loan officers and construction workers that have been effected by the housing slump (myself included). Now you can show all those folks how to supplement or even replace their decreased paycheck.

The cost of starting your own home based business is only a fraction of what starting a traditional brick and mortar business would be. Where else but a home based business can you make such a small investment (usually anywhere from $50 to around $1000) and have the potential to make a six figure residual income? Is it work? Yes. Will it take effort and committment? Yes. Will it happen overnight? No, but nothing that's worthwhile and lasting ever is.

What I can tell you is this, you can take charge of how you're making money. You can flourish in this economy amid all the doom and gloom. You can be free to spend time with your family, take that dream vacation and have that beautiful home you've always wanted. The sky is only falling for those chicken littles that aren't willing to take a chance on themselves. Create your own "Economic Stimulous Package" with your own home based business starting today.

Welcome to Squarespace!

Welcome to your new Squarespace site!  Below is a video that shows you how to get started using our system.

The three most important things to keep in mind:

  • The buttons in the top right allow you to interact with your site in different ways.  For instance, the 'A' icon represents content mode, which lets you edit journal entries and other content.  The 'Cube' Icon represents structure mode, which lets you add and organize pages.  Each mode is explained if you hover on the icon.

  • You can drag and drop anything on your site.  Want to move a page?  Enter structure mode and drag the page to a new location.  You can even drag pages between columns or from a column on to your top navigation bar.  Need to edit a journal entry?  Enter content mode and click 'Modify' on the entry you'd like to edit.

  • Our styles are presets that you can make your own.  Entering style mode on the upper right will let you edit any color, width, column arrangement, or banner and more.  Most editing is done from the Fonts & Colors tab of the style edtior menu.

Want to remove this entry?  Enter content mode by pressing the 'A' on the upper right, then press 'remove' next to the title of this entry.
